Southampton Sling Meet was set up in response to the growing number of parents in the area who are interested in using slings or baby carriers, but having looked at the wide range on offer, are unsure which one to go for. We set up the Southampton Sling Library in order to build a collection of slings which parents can borrow for a small fee, in order to see how they get on with them. At a Sling Meet you can try out a variety of slings and also get advice on how to use your own slings, or just chat to other ‘babywearing’ parents.
We meet from 1pm until 3pm on the first Monday of each month until the end of 2011, and then the first Friday of the month from the start of 2012, at The Windmill Children’s Centre, Long Lane, Bursledon, SO31 8BZ. This venue provides us with a dedicated children’s play area to entertain the little ones and an adjoining room in which to lay out and try on all of the slings. Car parking is available on the road outside the schools, or in the car park at Great Down Park, which is on the opposite side of the road. The Children’s Centre is the white building, in the schools’ grounds, between the two school buildings. To get there on public transport, you need to get a train to Bursledon station (which is then about a 10-15 minute walk from the venue) or First bus routes 16A, 72, 78, 79 or 80 which all stop in Lowford (which is then around a 5-10 minute walk to the venue).
