Unpadded Freedom Sling

The unpadded Freedom Sling is an unpadded ring sling. It can be used to carry your baby on your front, back or hip.

We don’t currently have an unpadded Freedom Sling in the sling library. If you have an unpadded Freedom Sling that you no longer use and would like to donate it to the library, please email us.

I’d like to recommend the Freedom unpadded ring sling. I used it with my daughter from newborn to about 18months. It’s a great value, versatile sling. Lovely, light fabric for the summer and can also be worn under a coat in the winter. The ring design is so easy to use and adjust for either parent. My daughter was an unsettled baby, and the sling was the only place that she’d be happy, snuggled up against me. If she fell asleep, I could then lay her down in her cot without waking her. And in reverse, a sleeping baby could be placed in it. I didn’t get the hang of breast feeding in the sling, but it was a useful protective piece of material for when we were in a ‘too public’ area. As she grew older, the sling then was used for hip hold, and eventually back hold, though I started to struggle with this as she got heavier, as the weight was on one shoulder. In a hip hold, I could also be hands free –as the sling help and supported her whole weight, unlike a hip carrier. This proved so useful when collecting my eldest from pre-school, or paying for things in shops. It was a breeze to get her in and out of it, so a quick car trip and into the sling was much easier than getting a buggy out. There’s a useful pocket, and it folds away neatly to fit in your bag!

I agree and also used a Freedom unpadded ring sling. We both used it for the first four months pretty constantly in snuggle hold and kangaroo hold. We didn’t and still don’t really use the buggy, just into a ring sling for a quick shorter walk and another (connect baby) one for longer walks.

I succumbed to pressure from my husband and bought him and my baby a mamaway ring sling for christmas after 4 months – for the sole reason our baby is a boy and the second hand Freedom Sling is pink! The mamaway sling came in a brown and blue stripe so was considered more manly! I have noticed however that the mamaway material doesn’t slip as much but isn’t as lightweight so probably won’t be as nice in the summer.
