The Bara Barn knot shawl is tied in a knot where you would have the rings in a ring sling. The finished effect is very similar to a ring sling and the Bara barn fabric is lovely and light. However, I didn’t find it as easy to adjust the fit of the fabric around my son’s back and legs as it was in the ring sling, so I found that the fabric gaped around his back and as a result, he ended up leaning back further than is really comfortable. This may be less of an issue in a cradle carry with a newborn.
Edited to add: I tried this sling out again today with a friend’s 6 month old son and managed to tie it so that it gave a really snug fit and was very comfortable. I guess with practise that the tying to get a good fit would become second nature.
